Slabbed

Catching up with the blog after an incredibly busy two weeks. Our slab was laid just over a week ago on 7 April.

We met our site supervisor, Tom, on site and he walked us through the slab.

I don’t know whether this happens to most people, but my husband and I had the weirdest experience standing in front of and on the slab. It looked too small! We knew that it wasn’t (it extends almost to the boundary on the left side of the block and nearly to the right side, where there is apparently a 3m gap), but it felt small. I couldn’t see how we could fit beds in the bedroom or the kitchen in the kitchen!

Tom explained to us that a lot of people have that reaction because the open space around the slab makes it hard for our brains to size things up accurately. He chuckled at the looks on our faces and reminded us that having walls will help it all make sense. Of course we knew that but couldn’t feel it. Our brains are fascinating things, aren’t they?

The frame is mostly up but I haven’t see it in daylight yet – I’ll post some photos of the frame soon.
