It’s hard to get excited about shopping for bricks, but that’s what we are up to. Today I visited the PGH and Austral display centres in Fyshwick, as well as the Amber Tiles centre, which is where you are allegedly able to view to the Boral brick range.
The PGH and Austral displays were great; the Amber Tiles Centre was very disappointing – on two fronts: the salesman there was an incessant talker (and boy, did he love his captive audience) and, as he is an Amber Tiles man, knows nothing about the Boral bricks. I was advised to come back during the week to see the Boral bloke, as he only works Monday to Friday (this would have been useful to know in advance of my visit); and, the ‘range’ of Boral bricks is ridiculously limited. I will have to call the salesman during the week and ask for addresses of homes built with the bricks I liked from online photos (and we all know how accurate they are/aren’t.
Fortunately PGH and Austral were able to provide addresses for their bricks that we liked, so off we ventured. We looked at lots of houses and from today’s excursion have decided that PGH Espresso and Austral Blackbutt are in the running. Unfortunately PGH’s list of addresses for Blue Steel Flash bricks was incorrect and the house we thought had been built with those bricks wasn’t (ghastly orange bricks had been used). We will have to go further afield next weekend and look at Blue Steel Flash (which will be an upgrade to the tune of approx. $4k) and a couple of the Boral bricks we think we might like (if the Boral man can provide addresses for said bricks).
